A Convenient Location

When we started looking at B&Bs for sale in the Finger Lakes region, we assumed we'd end up right in the center of the wine trails between the larger lakes.  The inns we toured there didn't seem 'just right' (inadequate innkeeper quarters, too much deferred maintenance, etc.) and we gravitated to Greenwoods inn and its practical features.  We also pretty much fell in love with Greenwoods when we saw it.  Since moving here to Honeoye and getting to know the area better, we have come to realize how ideal the location is.

We are the closest Finger Lakes B&B to the nearby metropolitan regions of Rochester and Buffalo (and beyond that, Southern Ontario and Toronto).  We are a quick get-away for city folks who want to spend a weekend in the hills and by the lakes without traveling a great distance.  Rochester is 45 min. north; Buffalo is an hour and a half west, and Syracuse is an hour and fifteen minutes east.

Though we are in the western ("Little Lakes") part of the Finger Lakes we have quick and easy access to all the region has to offer to visitors.  We are just west of Canandaigua Lake and are a few minutes from the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail.  Routes 5 and 20 easily connect people with the tops of the largest lakes including Seneca and Cayuga with their wine trails, and it is a beautiful 40 minute drive through the countryside to some of the best wineries in the region on Keuka Lake.  Guests seem to think nothing of setting out for the day to explore every corner of the region.  Watkins Glen, Letchworth State Park, Corning Museum of Glass, and even Niagara Falls (two hours west) are popular day trips.

People think of wine when they hear "Finger Lakes", but the region has also distinguished itself as a destination for craft breweries, distilleries, and cideries.  Three new popular breweries are within ten minutes of Greenwoods, and two new distilleries and a new cidery are within twenty minutes.  Many of our guests come here to explore and enjoy the varied beverage trail opportunities.

Greenwoods is also extremely well located for recreation.  Bristol Mountain Ski Resort is 10 miles down the road, offering both downhill and cross country skiing.  Winter guests also enjoy the cross country trails at nearby Cummings Nature Center, Harriet Hollister Recreation Area, and Wesley Woods.  Hiking opportunities abound in warm weather at the same parks and at Grimes Glen in Naples with two spectacular waterfalls.  Pristine and undeveloped Canadice Lake is just a few minutes to our west and is a serene spot for kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding.

We are just a few minutes south of the unique "Antique Mile" in Bloomfield which offers many shops and co-op antique malls.  For those who want a "real" mall experience, there is a large one just twenty-five minutes north at Eastview in Victor.

One of the pleasures of serving here as innkeepers is the ability to refer guests to many options for excellent dining.  From upscale eateries with stunning views to funky farm-to-table establishments to our Honeoye-based Mill Creek Café with fresh, creative food, there is no shortage of delicious dining opportunities nearby.

Although there are many bed and breakfast inns and hotels in the Finger Lake region, we are the only inn serving a pretty sizeable area.  The closest B&B is six miles away, and then it is several miles further to the next B&B or hotel.  We are fortunate to have very little competition in our immediate area for the services we provide.

For us personally, we have appreciated the proximity to Rochester for shopping and for experiencing an occasional dose of urban life.  Canandaigua is a great small city just 15 minutes to our west and we are often there to stock up on supplies at Lowes or shop for groceries at highly-rated Wegmans Food Market.  Our own little village of Honeoye has a decent grocery store, a CVS, and a Dollar General, so we're never more than two miles away from needed supplies.

In summary, we have found Greenwoods' location to be pretty perfect for growing a bed and breakfast business and as a great place to live and thrive!
